Campus Recreation at Towson University is currently accepting applications for an Athletic Trainer. Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director, Competitive Sports, and Medical Director of Athletics, the Campus Recreation Athletic Trainer will coordinate medical care and comprehensive athletic training services for Towson students participating in Campus Recreation programming, mainly Sport Clubs. Duties include, but are not limited to medical clearance, injury prevention, care of athletic injuries and rehabilitation while working in a collaborative environment with Towson University Athletics Medical Staff and with other sports performance professionals. In consultation with the Assistant Director, Competitive Sports and the Sr. Associate Athletics Director, Sports Medicine & Performance the Campus Recreation Athletic Trainer will coordinate all operational policies and procedures for Campus Recreation athletic training services and supervise the Burdick Hall Athletic Training Facility in conjunction with Athletics staff athletic trainers. Furthermore, this individual will supervise and schedule contracted/Per Diem athletic trainers to cover all clinic hours and sport club home events.
In consultation with the Sports Medicine & Performance Staff, formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans, implement treatments, and monitor progress. Possess technical and practical expertise in the appropriate application and supervision of a wide range of rehabilitative exercises/therapy and diagnostic equipment. Maintain athletic training clinic hours in Burdick Hall. Provide sideline athletic training coverage for sport club home events.
Administrative Related Duties
Apply evaluative skills and techniques for orthopedic and medical problems associated with athletics participation through the Sport Clubs medical clearance process. Record, analyze and maintain medical records for daily treatments/rehabilitation, practice and game limitations, medical services, and referrals. Communicate and interact with medical professionals, coaches, and administrative staff. Coordinate diagnostic tests. Secure test results and prepare information for Physician Clinics.
Gather information needed for insurance claims. Follow up as needed. Prepare annual assessment data and reports to support the needs of Sports Medicine and Campus Recreation. Attend Campus Recreation & Sports Medicine staff meetings, planning and training sessions. Evaluate and ensure compliance with program and risk management policies. Advise Campus Recreation regarding health, safety and risk management issues. Assist Campus Recreation staff in the evaluation and formulation of guidelines, procedures and long-range plans. Represent Campus Recreation & Sports Medicine at various campus, division and community functions as assigned. Develop professional relationships with officers and club members, educate club officers and Safety & Facility Officers on departmental risk management procedures, concussion protocol, etc. Contribute to the accomplishment of departmental goals and initiatives, as assigned. Other duties as assigned by Departmental Staff.
Supervision and scheduling of contracted/Per Diem athletic training staff. Serve as a preceptor, teaching and mentoring athletic training students in the Athletic Training Education Program. Provide supervision of athletic training students during their clinical experience. Including hiring/firing authority, conducting performance evaluations, and approving timesheets.
Inventory and order medical supplies & equipment. Work with the Campus Recreation facility staff to schedule appropriate maintenance and cleaning of the Burdick Hall Athletic Training Room.
